NAVIGON U.S. West App Reviews

Whats the deal with updates?

This is a great GPS, but doing updates is a joke? It takes days to weeks (currently at 4 days with this one), and the selected states sit there and say Waiting..... Forever.... I have changed the maps, accepted changes in every combination I can think of and the update sits there. And this isnt the 1st time.

Wrong Wrong Wrong - Must have been hacked

Horrible. Will take you in the most bizarre wrong directions. Somebody must have hacked this app to purposely cause havoc. I would never have believed a navigation app from a big name company could possibly be so bad. They must be laughing at us saps for paying money for this crap. The screens look great, but what good is it if it takes you to Timbuctoo when you want to go to Los Angeles. Really Garmin??? I am not kidding: while driving up I-5 from LA to SF, it tried to get me to exit at least 4 times, sending me to Bakersfield, or some other wacked out direction. THE DIRECTIONS CANNOT BE TRUSTED.

Auto dim

The screen automatically dim itself on iOS 8.

Direction Bug Fixed

For the last 6 months the app had a serious bug with the directions. It confused North and South and East and West. I had given up on the app and switched to Google Maps. With the September map update this seems to have been fixed. Users without the map update probably still have the problem. I am not giving it 5 stars until the real time traffic and routing through traffic also is improved.

Broken with update

iOS 8.1.2 and 12/11 app. Doesnt work anymore - no way to start route navigation so totally useless! Please fix.

STOP WITH THE ADVERTISING

I dont want to see that stupid popup screen every time I launch the app. Whose idea was that?

okay but not great

I need offline maps when I go camping in the western US — i.e. backcountry in my 4x4 — dirt roads, jeep trails — generally no phone signal, let alone data. This product fills the need but I don’t use it otherwise. PROS: - works flawlessly without service - only download the states you need, which saves RAM CONS: - occasionally (rarely) gives wrong verbal directions (e.g. voice says take X-east instead of X-west, but the map on the screen shows the correct ramp). - search for POI, e.g. gas station, doesn’t by default search for one en-route, and doesn’t tell you which direction it is (unlike Garmin GPSs), so the nearest one may be behind you and it’ll take you backwards to it. - annoyingly tries to produce freeway names (e.g. CA-8 as “Caw-eight”, WA => “Wah”, U.S.-80 => “Us-80”, etc.)

Keeps getting better and better

Update after years of use: This app keeps getting better and better. Kudos to the development team! I use it practically every day twice a day. I find it more complete, friendly and aesthetically pleasing than those free nav apps. Update on version 2.4.2 build 72 Navigon: thank you for fixing your BUG. The voice guidance over bluetooth again works properly, and I did not need to change any settings. The app is good and greatly useful with the traffic add-in. ... It worked better with Bluetooth before the latest update. I really liked the many improvements in the earlier version. Now the voice feature is useless. The latest update was supposedly to add Bluetooth capability, but it broke that. It now will lose the voice guidance but keep the Bluetooth "off hook". I have a love-hate relationship with this app, because every-other version release they screw-up something. I had found the traffic navigation excellent until hobbled by this latest release.

Great for truck drivers

This app is very great and easy to navigate with semi truck drivers with the new update it has some great new features

Very misleading - Do not waste your money

Dont buy this app thinking you can, for $14.99, upgrade to a new region. They have removed all of those, even though they show in the "In App Purchases" section. They claim they cannot remove or edit that list. When you buy West, that is all you get unless you buy the whole NA map, which will cost another $49.99, so now youve paid more for the whole US than if you purchased it from the start. Several upgrades later, this is still the case. Absurd. As for the app itself, it is medocre. I purchased it because it would give me usage in areas with poor or no cell coverage, something the free map services cannot do, but the UI is horrible, the searching is limited. This company hasnt used a modern mapping service to see how easy they are to use. It still thinks everything should operate like a GPS device from 2005. You cannot just type in an address like all other navigation apps. You have to start with the city, then street, etc. a real pain. I still keep on my phone because 1) I cannot get a refund 2) I want to make sure everyone thinking of buying this does so with their eyes WIDE open. If you only need West and will never upgrade, no prob. Otherwise, buyer beware.

Couldnt keep up. Program way outdated

App has become slow and inaccurate. Routing suggestions are sometimes silly and now it wants me to pay $40 to update my maps. Stick with Google Maps. Even Apple maps is more accurate than this app.

Only nav app I know to work without cell service

If you start your trip , say in Vegas and go through Mammath lakes and Yosemite where there is no cell service,,, it still works. The map is in the memory of the phone so its not needing data. And its still works with my phone even without cell service. My only gripe would be the cost to get the other regions. I bought it at an introductory price for $19.99 or 29$ I should have got every region.

Apple Watch

For the watch - Would like option for haptic alerts ON / OFF and sound alerts ON / OFF Thanks

Misleading...

According to the iTunes listed in-app purchases you can buy Central United States. However this option is not available in the actual app. Only all of Northern American. Its very misleading.

Good gps app

Good gps app. Would like to see a feature to automatically optimize a route in stop order like my Garmin use to be able to do

Best Navigation App Ever!!!

I have used this app for some time now and can see no reason to change. I use it on my iPhone 6+ as well as my iPad mini on longer treks. I like the choices and overall ease of use. I just wish I could have it recognized as my default map app.
